Flood situation in some parts of Bangladesh is likely to worsen further as the water level in some rivers may rise in the next 24 hours, according to a bulletin of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
The 24-hour bulletin, issued on Thursday, also said The Teesta, Brahmaputra rivers are in rising trend, while the Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma rivers are in falling trend.
According to the numerical weather forecast of meteorological agencies, there is chance of medium to heavy rainfall at some places of the northern and north-eastern regions of the country along with adjoining states of Assam (Barak Basin), Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal of India in next 48-72 hours.
As a result, the Brahmaputra and the Jamuna along with the Surma, the Kushiyara and all major rivers of north-eastern regions may rise in the next 48-72 hours, according to the bulletin.
In some places of the north-eastern region in the country, some rivers may flow above the respective danger levels, it said.
The Dharla and the Teesta may rise rapidly due to heavy rainfall and flow above their respective danger levels causing a brief flood situation in next 48-72 hours, it stated.
