Flood situation in parts of country likely to worsen further

Flood situation in some parts of Bangladesh is likely to worsen further as all the major rivers of the northern & north-eastern regions of the country are on the rising trend, according to a bulletin of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).

Citing the numerical weather forecast of meteorological agencies, the 24-hour bulletin also said there is a chance of medium to heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours at some places of the northern and north-eastern regions of the country along with adjoining states of Assam, Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal of India.

As a result, the Teesta, the Dharla, the Dudkumar, the Surma, the Kushiyara, the Someswari and all major rivers of the northern & north-eastern regions may rise in the next 48 hours, it said.

In some places in the north-eastern region of the country the Surma, the Kushiyara & the Someswari rivers may flow above their respective danger levels in the next 48 hours, the bulletin said.

However, the Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma rivers are in steady state, it added.
