The flood situation in Bangladesh may get worsened in the next 24 hours as most of the major rivers are in rising trend, according to a bulletin of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
The 24-hour bulletin, issued on Friday morning, said the Brahmaputra and Jamuna rivers are in rising trend which may continue until next 48 hours.
The Ganges River is also swelling while the Padma River is in steady state, which may continue until next 24 hours, as per the bulletin.
Except the Kushiyara, Manu and Khowai, all the major rivers in the north-eastern region of the country are in rising trend, it stated.
In the next 48 hours, the Teesta River at Dalia point may cross or flow close to its danger level, it said.
Citing different information from meteorological agencies, it also said there is a chance of heavy rainfall in the northern, north-eastern part of the country and at few places adjoining the upstream part of India in the next 72 hours.
As a result, the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar in the northern region and all the major rivers in the north-eastern region may rise rapidly during this period, it added
