Flood situation deteriorates further leaving seven dead

Flood situation in several parts of the country deteriorated further as new areas were inundated amid heavy rainfall and onrush of upstream from India leaving seven people dead in last 24 hours.

Total death toll reached 93 in the three and half week long flood that brought devastation in 21 districts in the northern, north-eastern and central regions, according to official data.

Brahmaputra-Jamuna, the Padma, the Upper Meghna swelled further snapping road communications at places and leaving millions of people marooned.

The overall flood situation in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Natore, Bogura, Sirajganj, Sherpur, Sylhet and Sunamganj districts deteriorated further due to rise in water levels their adjacent rivers.

People are suffering much for acute shortages of food and pure drinking water.

So far 3.1 million people have been marooned and 93 died in 21 districts from June 30 to July 23 morning, according to National Disaster Response Coordination Center (NDRRC) under the health ministry.

According to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre(FFWC), the flood situation  might worsen further in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Natore, Bogura, Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Tangail and Naogaon districts in the next 24 hours while it might remain unchanged in Sunamganj, Sylhet, Brahmanbaria, Netrokona, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Madaripur,Chandpur,  Rajbari, Shariatpur and low lying area of Dhaka district.
