Flood situation in several parts of the country continued to worsens taking death toll to 100 on Friday in the three and half week long flood that has marooned one third of Bangladeshis so far.
Seven people died in last twenty four hours between Thursday noon to Friday noon by drowning and snakebites in the flood affected districts, according to the National Disaster Response Coordination Center (NDRRC).
Of the victims, two died in Tangail and two in Sirajganj on Friday by drowning.
NDRRC recorded a total of 100 deaths between June 30 to July 24 due to the flood that hit 26 districts so far.
Highest deaths of 26 were recorded in Jamalpur, followed by 19 in Kurigram and 10 in Tangail, Gaibandha and Lalamonirhat each.
Most of the people died by drowning, snakebites and few by diarrhoea.
A total of 3.2 million people have been marooned so far in the districts while water damaged numerous houses, crops, communications infrastructures, educational institutions and other establishments, according to the Bangladesh Water Development Board.
Water levels in different rivers of the Padma-Ganges basin started rising again amid heavy downpour and onrush of water from the upstream aggravating the flood situation in the char and low-lying areas in the northern, northeastern and central regions.
The water level of the Padma River increased flowing 105 cm above the danger mark at Goalundo point in Rajbari.
Of the total 30 river points being monitored in the Padma basin regularly, water levels increased at 19 stations on Friday.
Besides, the water level of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna basin continued swelling.
