Flag meeting between Bangladesh, Myanmar border forces ends

A flag meeting between the border guards of Bangladesh and Myanmar was held at Ghumdhum Border Observation Post (BOP) in Naikhyangchhari Upazila of Bandarban on Friday.

Seven members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) took part in the meeting that started around 3.15pm this afternoon, several televisions said.

On Thursday, Myanmar armed soldiers and border guard were mobilised neared the border fence and appeared to be moving in heavy weaponry.

The Bangladesh foreign ministry summoned the Myanmar ambassador and asked him to tell the Myanmar authorities to immediately withdrawal security forces along with military assets from the area.

BGB 34 Battalion Commander Lt Col Manjurul Hasan earlier said they protested and called for a flag meeting when Myanmar increased security presence at the border.

Later, Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) responded and agreed to hold the meeting.
