Five of a family suffer burn injuries in Savar gas cylinder blast

Five members of a family received critical burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded at a house in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka city on Friday.

They are Arab Ali, 50, his wife Hasina, 40, and their son Abdur Rab, 26, daughter-in-law Nipa, 24, and one and half a year old granddaughter Ayesha.

Accodring to on-duty doctors at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where the victims have been admitted, Arab sustained 60 per cent burn injuries while Hasina 96 per cent, Rab 88 per cent, Nipa seven per cent and Ayesha 32 per cent.

Quoting witnesses, Bachhu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police camp, said the cylinder exploded with a bang at around 7:00 am as Hasina was trying to light a stove.
