Five more dengue patients die in 24 hours

With five more deaths reported in 24 hours, until Wednesday morning, this year's dengue fatalities climbed to 187.

This year’s fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease reached 182 on Tuesday, exceeding all previous records in Bangladesh.

During the 24-hr period, 796 patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest deaths, three were reported from Dhaka and one each from Chattogram and Khulna divisions, reports UNB.

The new figures raised the death toll in Dhaka division to 117, in Chattogram division to 45, and in Khulna to 10.

According to the DGHS, among the new patients, 459 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 337 outside of it.

A total of 3,144 dengue patients, including 1,915 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country.

The directorate has recorded 45,598 dengue cases and 42,267 recoveries so far this year.

Earlier, the country recorded the highest number of 179 deaths from dengue in a year in 2019.
