Five children have drowned in Jamalpur while travelling by a boat in a wetland.
The incident took place at around 12 noon in Sarishabari Upazila on Thursday, according to Mohabbat Kabir, a local police inspector at Tarakandi.
According to a bdnews24 report, the dead have been identified as Subarna, 17, Jhuma, 14, Antara, 10, Ruposhi, 8, and Jannat, 10.
Ruposhi and Jannat came to visit their relative and went on a boat trip in the nearby wetland, known as Nikhai Bil, said the inspector.
“There was no boatman. The children were rowing the boat but it capsized after it was struck by big waves. The locals rushed to the spot to rescue them but the children died before they reached.”
