Five abducted Bangladeshis return from Yemen

Five Bangladeshi nationals, who were arrested by the Houti Coast Guard on February last year, returned from Yemen.

The rescued Bangladeshis – Mohammed Yousuf, Mohammad Alauddin, Mohammed Alamgir, Mohammed Rahim Uddin and Mohammed Abu Tayub – arrived in the city today (Sunday), a foreign ministry press release said.

A ship fell in a storm and sank near Al Salaif Port of Hodeida in Yemen on 12 February, 2020. All of the crews, including Bangladeshi nationals, were arrested by Houthi Coast Guard.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka coordinated with Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat, Kuwait and Amman and International Organization for Migration (IOM) to rescue the abducted Bangladesh nationals.

Two other Bangladeshi nationals – Jamal Uddin and Rafiqul detained in Aden were also repatriated on December 30th last, reports BSS.
