Fishermen retrieve missing policeman’s dead body from Meghna

A police constable, missing since Saturday’s clash with fishermen in the Meghna River, was found dead on Sunday morning.

Mosharraf Hossain’s body was retrieved from the river in Hizla upazila. The 32-year-old was posted at Haimchar Police Station. He hailed from Chattogram’s Sitakunda upazila, reports UNB.

“Local fishermen spotted the body around 11:30am and contacted us,” said SK Mohsin Alam, officer-in-charge of Haimchar Police Station.

Mosharraf was part of a police team going to the other side of the river to arrest a suspect early Saturday. But fishermen, who were fishing defying a ban, thought police were coming for them.

They attacked the engine-run boat with bamboo poles and brick chips. Mosharraf fell in the river and had been missing since then.

His wife Shamima Akter, 25, also works as a police constable.
