First namaz-e-janaza of journalist AZM Anas held

First namaz-e-janaza of AZM Anas, the Economic Editor at The Financial Express, was held at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) on Tuesday afternoon.

Former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, former JPC president Shawkat Mahmud, current JPC president Farida Yasmin and secretary Ilias Khan were present, among others, at the namaz-e-janaza.

AZM Anas, a permanent member of JPC, died of cardiac arrest around 8:00 am on Tuesday at his residence at Dhanmondi area of Dhaka.

He was a member of the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF), an award-winning business and development journalist and an alumnus of US’s East West Centre and Jefferson Fellow. He won several national and international awards and honours.

In his 20-plus-year career, he also worked for The Independent and The New Nation. Abu holds a master's in English Language and Literature and wrote for a range of international specialist publications and online portals.

AZM Anas received Gold prize for the “Prince Albert II of Monaco and UNCA Awards for coverage of Climate Change” in 2019, the first Bangladeshi journalist to get such an honour.

He left behind his wife, two children, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

His second namaz-e-janaza was held after asr prayers at Pantha Path Jame Masjid in Dhaka.
