First batch of purchased Chinese vaccines to arrive soon, confirms Envoy

The first batch of Covid vaccines Bangladesh has purchased from China will arrive here soon, according to the country's ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming.

The Ambassador said this while delivering an on-line lecture to the students on "Chinese Foreign Policy: Implications on South Asian Region" held on Sunday.

He did not specify any time on the arrival of the jabs.

However, Bangladesh hopes to get 15 million doses of vaccine- 5.0 million doses each month - from China as planned.

"In the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, China and Bangladesh have supported and helped each other in times of difficulty and conducted effective cooperation," he said reiterating that friendship and cooperation have been the main theme of Bangladesh-China relations.

He said China would continue to work together with Bangladesh to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Ambassador Li highlighted China's overall foreign policy, national defence policy and China-Bangladesh relations during the one hour lecture.

He said China pursues an independent foreign policy of peace, as well as a national defence policy that is defensive in nature.

Under the overall foreign policy, he said, China is committed to deepen and expand its diplomatic work in a comprehensive, multilevel, wide-ranging, multifaceted way to build a global network of partnerships.

Ambassador Li concluded his lecture with a quote from President Xi Jinping-- "Our world is full of both hope and challenges. We should not give up our dreams just because the reality around us is too complicated; we should not stop pursuing our ideals just because they seem out of our reach."
