A fire broke out at Zaman Tower at Purana Paltan area in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
Smoke was seen billowing out of the 16-storey building around 3pm, report bdnews24.com and UNB.
Fire service control room official Ziaur Rahman said the fire may originated on the offices of National Credit Ratings Limited housed on the eighth floor of the building.
However, he did not confirm the cause of the fire immediately.
The multi-storey building also houses the office of Jatiya Oikyafront on its third floor.
Oikyafront's media wing member Latiful Bari Hamim said, "We fear it is an act of sabotage to impede our works before the national election."
Another official of fire service control room Rasel Shikdar said eight fire fighting units are trying to extinguish the fire.
The extent of damage could not be known immediately.
