Ferry services on Kathalbari-Shimulia route resumed on a limited scale since Monday.
However, passengers and freight truck drivers have to spend longer time to cross Padma River due to limited-scale ferry services and strong currents in the river.
Earlier, the ferry terminal at Shimulia was closed for about 24 hours after it was washed away by the erosion of the Padma River.
Seven ferries, out of 16, are plying on the route using four ghats out of six at Shimulia point in Munshiganj from Monday after repairing works.
Some lighter vessels are also plying through Jajira point in Shariatpur district as an alternative route.
Meanwhile, adequate law enforcement forces including police, RAB, executive magistrate are deployed in the Kanthalbari Ghat area to ensure the safety of the passengers.
At the same time, several teams of BIWTA are performing duties in the ghat area.
BIWTA Terminal Inspector Akhter Hossain said, “There are limited ferries plying the route. Many trucks are stuck in the ghat area.”
