FE journalist Biplab Zaman no more

Police recovered the partially decomposed body of Biplab Zaman, news consultant of The Financial Express, from a residence in the capital's Mirpur area on Saturday evening. He was around 60.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur zone, Md Jasim Uddin, briefed journalists after the recovery of the body.

He said that being informed police and crime scene unit of CID rushed to the House No. 161, Road No. 7, Journalists Housing, Kalshi, Pallabi Mirpur in the city and recovered the body.

"We (police and CID crime scene unit personnel) entered his (the 4th floor) flat by breaking open the door which was locked from inside and found the body lying in the balcony," he said.

He said that they completed the legal formalities and would send the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.

"We will be able to ascertain the cause of death after examining the postmortem report," he said while responding to a question about the possible cause of death.

The police official further said that the deceased had lived at the rented flat alone.

He said that the owner of the residential building Rafiqul Islam is also a journalist.

The relatives of the deceased and his office colleagues could not trace him for the last seven days and he did not attend his office during the days.

The deceased had been living there for over the last two years.

Police believe that he might have died some days back.

Biplab Jaman left behind his divorced wife, two daughters and one son.
