SYLHET, July 09: Farmers in Sylhet division have been engaged in the cultivation of T-Aman paddy in a bid to achieve highest yield, officials and a number of farmers said.
Seedbeds have already been prepared on a total of 11,288 hectares of land against the target of 21,028 hectares, an official at the divisional office of DAE said on Monday. It is considered the main crop of the region.
The division's target of production has been set at about one million metric tonnes of rice from the targeted area of 384,005 hectares.
Of the total target area, 140,185 hectares would be in Sylhet, 101,456 hectares in Moulvibazar, 78,921 hectares in Habiganj and 76,244 hectares in Sunamganj.
Farmers are passing busy time preparing lands. The farming is going well as the weathe is good with required rain.
During the last year's T- Aman season, farming of the crop was a good one with overall favourable weather behaviour.
The target was surpassed by about 4.0 per cent in the region last year.
