MAGURA, Jan 12: A farmer has achieved success in fruit, fish and turkey farming at the same time.
Amirul Islam of Belnagar village under Magura Sadar said, "I went to the Middle East in 2011 to turn the wheel of fortune. But my dream was shattered as I got no financial return despite giving hard labour in a construction company."
He said, "In 2012. I returned home empty-handed. That time I was disheartened and frustrated."
In 2013, he started a nursery business on his own land. "But I failed to make any profit from the venture. I had to close the nursery within a year", he added.
"I was very depressed at that time. Later, I became determined to step forward. In 2015, I started fish cultivation digging 30 decimal of land. Within a year, I made a profit of Tk 0.4 million", Mr Islam said.
In 2016, he brought more 10 decimals of land under fruit cultivation. He cultivated guava, lemon and mango and within two years, his total profit from fish and fruit cultivation stood at Tk 0.7 million.
In 2018, his integrated farming was extended to 50 decimals of land with turkey bird rearing.
In 2019, his total profit stood at Tk 1.4 million. His total investment in his integrated farm is around Tk 0.3 million. With this small investment, a profit of Tk 1.4 million in a year is beyond expectation.
Amirul Islam said, "I think we do not need to go abroad for living. If we can adopt proper plans and work hard we can attain solvency in our country. I have failed repeatedly. But it did not make me stop. I think failure instructs a person to find out the proper way to be successful."
He further said, "Once I left my own country for employment. Now I have employed five youths at my farm."
Magura Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abu Sufian said, "We are proud of Amirul's success. I occasionally visit his integrated farm."
