Fallen trees block traffic on Dhaka-Chattogram highway for 2.5 hours during cyclone

Traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway has suffered a blockade for two and a half hours due to fallen trees in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon during Cyclone Sitrang, bdnews24.com reports.

The Fire Service and Civil Defence said the two trees fell in the Dorikandi area around 9:30 pm on Monday.

Sujon Kumar Halder, chief of Sonargaon Fire Station, said they worked with highway police to remove the trees but the tailbacks stretched for more than 1 kilometre.

Nabir Hossain, chief of Kanchpur Police Station, said the highway was experiencing less traffic due to the bad weather.

Traffic became normal around midnight after the trees were removed, he said.
