Fakhrul decries Khaleda’s deprivation of minimum facilities

The BNP secretary general has alleged that their chairperson Khaleda Zia, now in jail, is being deprived of minimum lawful facilities.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, "The government has convicted our leader (Khaleda) unfairly by completely politicising the judiciary. They're now depriving her of minimum lawful facilities in jail."

He came up with the allegation on Monday while speaking at a human chain arranged by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal demanding Khaleda's release in front of Jatiya Press Club.

The senior BNP leader said although a certified copy of the verdict against the party chairperson had been possible within five working days – it’s yet to be provided.

"She (Khaleda) has been kept in solitary confinement in the jail violating the country's existing law."

He remarked that Khaleda Zia and democracy are 'interlinked' while also calling upon the people to put in their best efforts to free her from the jail.

"Let's be vocal demanding her release. We must force the government to free her from the jail through a movement."

UNB said Mr Fakhrul was of the opinion that the government fears Khaleda and that’s why it has sent her to jail in a 'false and fabricated' case to implement its evil design centring over the next parliamentary polls.
