JOYPURHAT: Mustard farmers are found happy over fair price of their produce this season in all five upazilas of the district and they are getting opportunity to sell it easily. With male members, female ones of remote villages of the district have been engaged in separating mustard after harvesting the spice from the field. They have started harvesting the crops with enthusiasm. Mustard harvesting has been completed successfully with the help of female and adolescent peasants last month as the farmers have brought the same land under Boro paddy cultivation.
The farmers are seen happy with bumper output in this current season too. In a recent visit at kitchen markets this correspondent found each maund of mustard is being sold at Tk 2800 to 3000 in the retail markets while Tk 2700 to 2780 in the wholesale markets across the region.
A farmer Munjurul Rahman, at Diyol village under Akkelpurupazila, said he got 26 maunds of fresh mustard yield from his four bighas of land. He has made over Tk 50,000 as profit paying production cost, he added.
According to Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office,the farmers of the district have cultivated mustard on 47,000 hectares of land aiming at producing 40,000 tonnes of fresh yield. But its cultivation has been exceeded the target due to the favourable weather condition. The farming will be increased across the region due to its lucrative profit next year, said sub-assistant agriculture officer Azizur Rahman. They would manage all sorts of necessary agri-inputs.
DD of DAE SM Meftahul Bari said the farmers of the district are happy over getting bumper output and fair price.
