Ex-RU professor among world’s most-cited scientists

Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: Retired professor of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (ACCE) department of Rajshahi University (RU) Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas has been ranked among the most cited scientists of the world in a research on metascience by Stanford University.

The research ranks a list of 1,59,683 scientists in various disciplines based on citations. This exhaustive list was co-authored by meta-science specialist Professor John Ioannidis from Stanford University, the US-based Kevin W Boyack and the Netherlands-based Jeroen.

A pioneering scientist in his fields, metallurgy and mining, Dr Biswas has a total of 120 publications in prominent research journals across the globe and over 1,352 citations. He has been ranked 284 in his field.

Dr Biswas earned his PhD from Rajshahi University. He completed his post-doctorate from the University of Bradford in the UK with a Commonwealth Academic Staff Scholarship. He was also a post-doctoral fellow at Perugia University in Italy, Tokyo University in Japan and Metallurgy Research Laboratory in India.

He started his teaching career in 1980 by joining Rajshahi University as a lecturer and retired as a professor in 2019.

In recognition of his special contribution to science and research, he was awarded University Grants Commission award in 2013 and Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS) award in 2014.

It is mentionable, twenty-six researchers from 17 Bangladeshi institutions made their places among the top two per cent of the most cited researchers throughout their careers in the said research.
