Former Awami League MP from Tangail-3 (Ghatail) Amanur Rahman Khan Rana was released from jail on bail on Tuesday, after two years and 10 months.

He walked out of Tangail District Jail around 9:30am after his bail order reached the prison, said Jail Super Abul Bashar.

On Monday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the bail granted by the High Court to Rana in a case filed over the killing of two Jubo League leaders.

On July 1, the Appellate Division stayed till July 8 the HC bail and asked the state counsel to file a regular leave to appeal petition by July 8. Earlier on June 20, it stayed the High Court order that had granted bail to former MP Rana in the case till July 1.

The High Court on June 19 granted bail to Rana in the case, UNB reported.

On March 14 last, the former AL MP also got bail in the freedom fighter and Awami League leader Faruk Ahmed killing case from the High Court.

Baghail union Jubo League leaders Mohammad Shamim and Mohammad Mamun went missing on July 16, 2012 from the district town of Tangail.

The following day, Shamim’s mother filed a general diary with Tangail Sadar Police Station.

Later, police arrested several suspects over the incident when two of the arrestees - Shahadat Hossain and Hiron Mia - revealed that both of the Jubo League leaders had been murdered as the order of MP Rana.

Rana surrendered to the Tangail additional district and session’s judge court on September 18, 2016 ending his 22-month fugitive run in the freedom fighter murder case.

The AL leader went into ‘hiding’ after he was accused of killing freedom fighter and member of district unit AL Faruk Ahmed.

On January 18, 2013, Faruk was shot dead in front of his residence in the district town.

Later, his wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case in this connection.
