EU to assist Bangladesh in tackling climate change

Frans Timmermans, executive vice president of the European Commission for the European Green Deal, has said the European Union will assist Bangladesh in all activities to combat climate change.

Appreciating the role of the Bangladesh government in tackling climate change, he said the EU will continue to increase its cooperation in the days to come. 

Mr Timmermans said this in a meeting between European Union and Bangladesh, held in Milan, Italy on Friday, according to a statement by the environment ministry. 

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin presided over the meeting.

“Bangladesh is playing a significant role in tackling climate change in the international arena,” he told the EU delegation.

To fight climate change, the minister sought the EU's cooperation in all sectors, including technology transfer, capacity building, renewable energy and adaptation activities.

A. Shamim Al Razi, Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Md Ziaul Haque, director of the Department of Environment, represented Bangladesh in the meeting.
