Ershad's Jatiya Party to lead opposition in parliament again

Hussain Muhammad Ershad’s Jatiya Party (JP) is set to emerge as the main opposition in the parliament again as the party has won the second largest number of seats in the 11th general election.

JP won 20 seats while BNP, only five, according to the unofficial results of the Election Commission announced early today.

BNP led the opposition in the ninth parliament.

Also the main opposition in the current parliament, JP contested this election, joining forces with Awami League-led Grand Alliance last month.

Awami League won 268 seats in the parliamentary election, which has been joined by all parties for the first time in a decade, held on Sunday.
