The Department of Environment (DoE) on Monday slapped a fine of Tk 120 million to 12 factories for polluting the environment in Dhaka and four other districts.
DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) imposed the fines on factories in different parts of Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj and Munshiganj as a part of their ongoing drive against pollution.
A BSS report, citing a statement, said the factory authorities were fined for harming the environment and causing ecological damage by releasing untreated liquid effluents or for running the factories without taking environmental clearance.
Three of the factories fall within the district borders of Dhaka, four in Narayanganj, another three in Gazipur, and one each in Manikganj and Munshiganj.
