Eminent citizens in a joint statement on Monday condemned the recent attack on the residence of Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of civil right organisation Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) and demanded immediate punishment of the perpetuators.
The 38 signatories include, among others, ex-caretaker government advisor M Hafizuddin Khan, eminent jurist Dr Shahdeen Malik, Prof Anu Mohammad, Dr Hamida Hossain, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Sheepa Hafiza, and Khushi Kabir. The attack took place after a dinner arranged at Badiul Alam’s residence on Saturday in honour of outgoing US envoy, reports UNB.
After finishing the dinner, when US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat was going out from Shujan secretary's house around 11:00pm, a gang of miscreants attacked the envoy's vehicle and assaulted Dr Majumdar's son Dr Mahbub Majumdar, national coach of Mathematics Olympiad.
The attackers also smashed window glasses of his residence and attempted to make force entry into the house.
