Eight zebras, rescued from Satmile area in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district early Wednesday, have been sent to Banghabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur following a court order.

Detective branch of police handed over the zebras to the Forest Department office in Khulna around 12am on Thursday.

DB police rescued the nine zebras which were kept there to smuggle those to the neighbouring country, said Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB.

The zebras were brought from Africa in box cartons and kept at the cattle-shed of one Nur Hossain Tutu.

One zebra died after being rescued around 9:30am.

Being informed, an eight-member Forest Department team came to the spot.
