Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has assured that no tailback will be created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr this year.

The minister came up with the assurance while talking to the reporters after examining the overall condition of Nabinagar-Chandra highway at Ashulia on Saturday, reports UNB.

Quader said "There will be no traffic congestions on the Dhaka-Tangail highway as the conditions of roads are much better ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr this year."

"The construction work of an Elevated Expressway from Abdullahpur to Ashulia Bypile DEPZ will start from October which is a Tk 8.50 billion project", he said.

"Legal steps will be taken if anyone found involved with extortion on the highways and high security measures will be taken on different highways including the Dhaka-Aricha highways centring the Eid-ul-Fitr, he added.

Meanwhile, about the recent anti-drug drives, Obaidul said "No drug peddlers will be speared, no matter whatever political party they belongs."

"Even Abdur Rahman Bodi, the lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf), will not be speared if proof of drug peddling is found against him," the Awami League general secretary said.

"The government has taken a zero tolerance policy against drug dealers. The drug paddlers have been shortlisted, police and Rapid Action Battalion has been probing the matter", he said.
