EC to set election date on Sunday: CEC

The Election Commission will hold a meeting on November 4 to set the election date for the 11th parliamentary election, says Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.

Huda disclosed the meeting date after a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban, the presidential palace, on Thursday.

“It was not an emergency meeting. It’s an informal meeting with the president. The president has been briefed on the preparation for the election,” said Huda.

The CEC said he did not discuss the polls schedule with President Hamid, reports bdnews24.com.

Huda led a team of four commissioners -- Mahbub Talukdar, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury and EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.

The Election Commission is set to announce the polls schedule in early November as the countdown to the election began on Oct 31.

Huda will announce the election date on state-owned broadcasters BTV and Bangladesh Betar.
