EC adds new voters, deletes dead voters from list

The total number of voters in the country at present is over 104 million.

The Election Commission (EC) revealed this information on Tuesday at a press briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban.  

The total number of voter has gone up by over 229 million since 2008, said EC's Acting Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed at the meeting.

According to the voter lists updated in 2008, the figure was around 810 million, says BSS.

Anyone having any objection in this regard to the draft voter lists will have to contact the EC by January 17 as the lists are displayed at important places in districts, upazilas and union parishads, Ahmed said.

Among the new voters, the information of 33,32,593 were collected in 2017 while the information of 9,62,296 in 2016, he said.

Ahmed also added that the names of 17,48,934 dead voters were deleted from the lists.

Among the total voters, 5,24,62,865 are male and 5,15,89,018 are female, he said.

The final voter lists will be published on January 31.
