East Razabazar under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) marked as red zone was not declared yellow zone which was under lockdown for 21 days since 10 June ended on 30 June as covid case number could not reach at that level.

The restriction on people’s movement as well as lockdown of the holdings with covid-19 patients and some other activities will continue for another week with some changed rules to prevent the area from further worsening of the situation.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam made the disclosure in a video message sent to media late Tuesday night.

“The infection rate has reduced in this area after implementation of zoning activities. But we could not reach to a level in terms of number of cases from where we can declare it a yellow zone from red,” said Mayor Atiq.

He however mentioned that after three weeks of lockdown in phase-1 of zoning system at the East Razabazar to contain virus infection, the experience was good.

It is difficult to save life by shutting down livelihood activities. To keep balance between life and livelihood some changes should be brought in the rules that can be implemented from the fourth week, said Mayor.

The changes are – local shops can be opened by putting barricade in front of the shops, the buyers and sellers must wear mask, avoiding crowd and maintain three feet distance.

No moveable shops selling commodities will be allowed to open, social distance must be maintained at mosque and temples. The entry of the outsiders in East Razabazar must be controlled to prevent infection and the sample collection booth will remain open to collect samples of the East Razabazar citizens.
