Department of Youth Development (DYD) has implemented Tk 47.1-million uplift schemes for making youths self-reliant in various income-generating activities during last nine and half years in the district.
Upazila level training activities were strengthened with the main thrust of employment and self employment generation during the first five years at a cost of around Tk 14 million.
Matiur Rahman, Deputy Director of DYD, said many youths were brought under training on fisheries, poultry, dairy, cattle-fattening and other animal husbandry.
Female youths were imparted training on tailoring, sewing, block, boutique and computer.
Currently, similar type of project is being implemented at a cost of around Tk 16 million. National service programme is also being executed involving around Tk 17.2 million.
At least 5,319 youths were given training of both institutional and non-institutional in order to make them self-reliant in various income-generating activities during this fiscal year.
Besides, 1,896 others were brought under self-employment and 320 under family-based programmes. Under the credit support programme, 912 beneficiary youths were given loans worth around Tk 26.9 million for operating their profit-making activities.
As part of the effort of building digital Bangladesh, all youth development related activities in the district were uploaded in web portal. Online reporting of all the credit related activities was updated.
DYD’s all activities were implemented with the main focus of training and self-employment. To this end, steps were taken to make the youths both male and female self-reliant through providing them with diversified training and financial assistance.
Simultaneously along with the normal activities, the beneficiary youths were motivated towards the fields of preventing child marriage and dowry, ensuring safe maternity and sanitation coupled with freeing the society from drug-addiction and all other crimes like terrorism and militancy.
Besides, the youth organisations were sensitised to tree plantation and nursing of those properly in supplementing the national efforts of environment protection.
So far, 82,868 trees were planted in the upazila and village level. The tree plantation activities will ultimately help reduce carbon emission at a substantial level and that is very important to face the adverse impact of climate change in the region.
The trained youths were also made competent for playing effective role to disaster management activities, reports BSS.
“Taking the necessity issue into consideration we have sent a proposal of building ‘Rajshahi Youth Bhaban’ on 3.2420 acres of land to the higher authority,” said Matiur Rahman. Upon its quick and successful implementation all the youth development related activities will be expedited, he added.
