Ducsu election being held fairly: BCL

Bangladesh Chhatra League President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon, who is contesting the election to Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu) as a vice-president (VP) candidate, says the election is taking place fairly.

“The environment that is now prevailing here indicates that the election is happening in a free and fair way,” he said after casting his vote at the Hazi Muhammad Mohsin Hall around 9:11am on Monday.

Asked about the ballot-box stuffing and vote boycott by students at the Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall, he said, “I don’t know about this. The administration will deal with it.”

Again, asked about allegation by the JCD, the student wing of the BNP, the major rival of the ruling Awami League, that their supporters were barred from voting in the election, he said, “These allegations are nothing but rumours.”

Voting in elections to the Dhaka University Central Students Union and its hall chapters started at 8:00 pm and it will continue without break until 2:00pm.

More than 43,000 students are expected to exercise their rights in the election.

This Ducsu election is being hell after long 28 years, with the last having been held in June 1990.
