DSCC sets world record by organising symbolic cleaning programme

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) set Guinness Book of World Record by organising minute-long symbolic cleaning programme titled "Dettol Clean Dhaka" in the city on Friday.

DSCC and the Reckitt Benkiser Bangladesh Limited jointly organised the programme in association with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), reports BSS.

The DSCC made the new record when 15,313 people along with the DSCC cleaners gathered to clean the road between Golap Shah Mazar and Zero Point in the capital around 10:50 am.

"The symbolic programme was organised to aware the people for building a clean Dhaka," said the DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon while inaugurating the programme at 9.30 am.

National Scout, Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Fire Service and Civil Defence, dance artists, film producers, directors, artists, different social organisations and educational institutions participated in the programme.

The auditors of the Guinness Book of World Records were present during the programme.

The previous record was set by India's Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) last year as more than 5,000 people took part in a cleaning drive in the Indian city.

Earlier on April 4, DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon urged the city dwellers to participate in the mass cleaning programme.

The registration of the participants started around 8 am.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, popular film star Riazuddin Ahmed Siddiqui Riaz, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and Gazi Group chairman Gazi Golam Dastagir, DSCC chief executive officer Khan Mohamad Belal, Nabidul Haq, son of deceased DNCC Mayor Anisul Haq, among others, were present at the event.
