DSCC moves to launch clean city drive

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken steps to present a dust and pollution-free capital to its people.

The city corporation will clean its 50 kilometres main roads by spraying water twice daily.

 A total of nine cars will wash the roads in the city corporation areas from 6am to 8am and from 1pm to 3pm every day.

DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon inaugurated the cleaning campaign today in front of the Nagar Bhaban in the city.

Inaugurating the programme, the mayor said the DSCC has taken various initiatives to make the city livable for its dwellers. There is no road which is free from dust which is responsible for asthma and lung allergy, he added.

Khokon said, "We want to get free the city dwellers from this problem by making the city dust and pollution-free".

The water spraying programme on the city will continue until April-May next year, the mayor said, adding that primarily the lanes in the city would not come under the programme.

According to the city corporation sources, special vehicles, imported from China and India, will spray water in the city corporation areas divided into five zones.

Zone-1 will cover the areas from Banglamotors to Bangabhaban, including Shikkha Bhaban, Zero Point and GPO, while Zone-2 will cover the areas from Madhumita Cinema Hall to Notre Dame College, including Ideal School, Shajahanpur, Khilgaon Flyover, Fakirapool, Dainik Bangla Square and Shapla square.

The Zone-3 will cover the areas from Nilkhet to Begum Badrunnesa Govt Women College, including Azimpur and Palashi crossing while Zone-4 will cover areas from Gulistan to Sadarghat, including North-South Road, English Road and Babu Bazar Bridge.

Besides, the Zone-5 will cover the areas from Bangabhaban to Postagola, including Ittefaq square, RAB-3 office, Maniknagar, Sayedabad Bridge Shaheed Faquq Sarak, Zorain rail gate, Dayaganj and Dholaikhal.
