DSCC mayor Taposh to file defamation case against Khokon

Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Monday that he will file a defamation case against Sayeed Khokon for his adverse comments against him.

'He (Sayeed Khokon) said many things out of personal jealousy that defamed me. I will take legal course of action against him," he told the media after inspecting the ongoing activities to remove wastes clogged at boxculverts at Kamalapur, Titipara, Gopibagh and Sayedabad areas.

He said that those people (evicted shop owners and traders of Fulbaria Super Market-2, Gulistan in the capital) who gave the money during the tenure of the immediate past mayor have brought complains about embezzlement of funds for allocation of shops at the market.

Taposh said that he has been fighting against corruption since taking the charge of the corporation on May 17 last.

Earlier, the DSCC had demolished 911 illegally built shops at Fulbaria Super Market-2 that forced the traders and shop owners to live in dire condition.

The former mayor of DSCC Sayeed Khokon while expressing his solidarity with the affected traders and shop owners of the market on January 9 last (Saturday) in the capital brought corruption allegations against the incumbent mayor Taposh.

He alleged that Taposh had embezzled funds of City Corporation and transferred the money to Madhumoti bank that he owns.

He said that the eviction drive carried out by the present administration of DSCC was illegal.

However, Taposh termed the allegations made against him by Mr Khokon as baseless, unfounded and out of personal jealousy.
