Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS), a passengers' welfare organisation, called upon the launch operators on Thursday not to increase launch fare on the pretext of having to maintain health rules during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement issued on the day, Mozzammel Hague Chowdhury, secretary general of BJKS, said general people have been passing their days amid financial hardship due to the lockdown that was enforced countrywide recently for containing Covid-19.

He said if the launch owners raise launch fare it will add to sufferings of the general public.

Country's common people have been passing a tough time as many of them were rendered jobless following shutdown of many factories and offices of private companies due to the outbreak of the pandemic.

He said mass transport especially buses have been facing shortage of passengers due to 60 per cent hike in bus fares.
