DoE fines eight factories for polluting environment

The Department of Environment (DoE) on Tuesday fined eight factories Tk 2.0 million for polluting the environment.

As part of the drive in Dhaka, Savar, Gazipur and Jamalpur against the environment pollution, the DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) slapped the fine on the factories following hearing, according to a DoE release. Of the factories, four are in Gazipur, two in Savar, one each in Dhaka and Jamalpur.

The factories were set up and being run without taking environmental clearance, creating noise pollution by running captive power plants and polluting air, reports UNB.
