DNCC fines different buildings for not using Bangla in writing signboards

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Thursday launched different mobile court drives in the city to ensure writing signboards and nameplates in the Bangla language.

A total of five mobile courts, led by five executive magistrates, conducted the drives in the city’s Kamal Ataturk Avenue and Rampura areas and fined different buildings and organisations for using English in the signboards and nameplates instead of Bangla.

The mobile courts also removed some signboards and gave those institutions one week’s time to replace the signboards in the Bangla language.

In Kamal Ataturk Avenue, a mobile court led by Regional Executive Officer (region-3) and Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Baki fined 10 buildings and institutions a total of Tk 55,000 for not writing signboards in the Bangla language.

Apart from this, another mobile court headed by Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Abdul Hamid Miah fined three organisations, in the same area, a total of Tk 9,000.

In Rampura, Executive Magistrate Tajwar Akram Sakapi Ibne Sazzad fined a total of Tk 48,000 to six organisations for not writing their signboards in Bangla and removed the signboards of five organisations.

Besides, a mobile court headed by Executive Magistrate Rifat Ferdous fined Crescent Super Shop Tk 10,000 and another shop Tk 5,000 in Rampura area for the same reason.

Executive Magistrate Persia Sultana fined five organisations, in the same area, Tk 45,000 for not writing the signboard in Bangla.

Earlier the High Court issued a rule to write every nameplate, signboard, billboard and banner in Bangla language instead English for all the institutions except embassies and foreign agencies.
