The Election Commission (EC) will hold the by-polls for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in the last week of February next year.
The schedule will be announced in January, said its acting secretary Helaluddin Ahmed at a press conference in Dhaka city on Sunday.
Besides, councilors in 36 new wards -18 of DNCC and 18 of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)-will be elected simultaneously during the end-February polls for around two and a half years, he said.
The DNCC mayoral post has fallen vacant since November 30 when its mayor Annisul Huq died after having been hospitalised in London for several months.
