DMP inaugurates murals remembering two slain police officers

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has inaugurated the murals of two police officials, who were killed during the militant attack on Holey Artisan Bakery in 2016.

The murals were installed in front of old Gulshan Police Station at Gulshan Avenue in the city, reports UNB.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia formally inaugurated the murals titled 'Dipta Shapath' created by eminent sculptor Mrinal Haque commemorating the supreme sacrifice of the two DMP officials.

Senior Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Detective Branch Md Rabiul Islam and then officer-in-charge (OC) of Banani Police Station Md Salahuddin Khan along with 20 other people -- nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi-born American and two Bangladeshis -- were killed in the terror attack on the upscale restaurant on July 1, 2016.

After inaugurating the sculptures, the DMP Commissioner said, "After the killing of our two police officers, we transformed the grief into strength and united people against militancy."

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of the DMP has so far conducted 70 major and small anti-militant operations successfully across the country, he said.

"Militancy is a global problem. We've been facing militancy risking our lives," he said.

About militant attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery, Asaduzzaman said the incident was one of biggest terrorist attacks in the country.

"We've already unearthed the mystery behind the attack. Most of the accused in the case filed over the incident were killed during anti-militant operations. Charge-sheet in the case will be submitted within this week," he added.
