Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday realised over Tk 2.706 million in fines from traffic offenders.
In simultaneous drives on the streets of Dhaka city conducted on the day, the DMP filed a total of 4,623 cases against different modes of vehicles for traffic rule violations, according to DMP data.
Of the cases, 875 were lodged for wrong side driving, 83 for using hydraulic horns, four for using hooters and beacon lights, and 19 others for using tinted glasses.
Police also filed 2,027 cases against motorcycles and seized 93 motorcycles for violating traffic rules.
A total of 16 motorcyclists also faced cases for using mobile phones while driving.
In addition, the DMP dumped 35 vehicles and wrecked 875 others during the Wednesday drive.
