DMP chief promises better security for city dwellers

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Wednesday promised to provide better security for the capital's residents.

"We want to turn Dhaka into a city where no-one will harass women, where businessmen won't have to pay extortion, and no-one will grab expatriates' land," he said at a police week-2019 rally at DMP headquarters.

He urged policemen to perform their duties properly, not to harass anyone and to make sure that people get desired services from them.

Asaduzzaman discouraged policemen to take bribes in the pretext of tips or misuse their power. He said they should stand by the innocent people and give them courage, reports UNB.

"We would like to pledge that with the assistance of the city's residents, we will eliminate drugs. There will be no snatching either," the DMP chief said. "We want to gift the people a safe city."

He said they had taken a tough stance against drugs. "It won't take time to bring the drug lords to book," he said.

Regarding traffic management, he said DMP's traffic department was working round the clock. "We have undertaken some plans. Traffic congestion will come down to a tolerable level once the plans are implemented," he added.
