Dist judge dies of coronavirus

Judge of the Lalmonirhat Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Ferdous Ahmed, 58, died from Covid-19 virus infection.

The judge, who holds district judge status, breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday night, said a statement issued by Md Saifur Rahman, the spokesperson of the Supreme Court and a special officer of the High Court Division.

Ferdous Ahmed is the first judge in Bangladesh to have died of the pandemic disease.

As many as 26 judges of the lower courts have been infected with the virus until Tuesday as they are holding hearings of bail petitions through video conferencing system due to the coronavirus outbreak. A total of 97 employees of the courts have also contracted the virus until that day.
