Some 3,000 dilapidated private secondary schools across the country are going to get new buildings alongside necessary equipments.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved the 'Development of Selected Private Secondary Schools' project in this regard.
The Education Engineering Department (EED) under the Secondary and Higher Education Division will implement the project by June 2020 with Taka 106.49 billion.
The approval was made at the 15th ECNEC meeting of the fiscal year held at the NEC conference room in the city's Sher-E-Bangla Nagar area with Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal briefed the reporters after the meeting that okayed a total of 14 projects involving Taka 184.83 billion.
"Of the total, Taka 163.71 billion will come from the GoB portion, Taka 950 million from the organisation's own fund. The rest of Taka 20.17 billion will be provided from project assistance," he added.
According to BSS, nine approved projects are new while five are revised projects.
Meanwhile, UNB says, Tuesday's ECNEC meeting revised for third time the 'Emergency 2007 Cyclone Recovery and Restoration Project (ECRRP): LGED Part' with the cost of Tk 16.18 billion.
The Construction of Flood Shelter Centres at Flood and River Erosion-prone Area (3rd phase) was also approved at the meeting involving Tk 15.07 billion.
The ECNEC meeting approved the Greater Chittagong Rural Infrastructure Development Project-3 with the cost of Tk 12.90 billion.
The other approved projects approved at the Ecnec meeting are 'Priority Rural Water Supply Project' at an estimated cost of Tk 8.74 billion, 'Construction of 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge under Bandar Upazila in Narayanganj (1st revised) at the cost of Tk 5.99 billion, Widening of Chapapur-Barura, Nimsar-Barura and Khajuria-Barura District Highways (in Barura upazila of Comilla) involving Tk 1.59 billion and Construction of seven RAB complexes (2nd revised) with Tk 5.99 billion.
The approved projects also include Construction of District Relief Godown-cum-Disaster Management Information Centres at an estimated cost of Tk 1.27 billion, River Mohananda Dredging and Construction of Rubber Dam at the cost of Tk 1.60 billion, Construction of Factory for Ensuring Multipurpose Use of Milk Alongside Improvement of Variety of Livestock at the Greater Faridpur Char Areas and Other Adjoining Areas Project with Tk 3.44 billion.
The remaining projects are Construction of Multi-Storey Building for Cox's Bazar Development Authority at the cost of Tk 1.12 billion, Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredient (API) Industrial Park (3rd revised) at the cost of Tk 3.81 billion, and Emergency 2007 Cyclone Recovery and Restoration Project (ECRRP): Project Coordination and Monitoring Unit (PCMU) Part (3rd revised) at an estimated cost of Tk 630 million.
