Dhaka University to promote entrepreneurship

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Bangladesh and the Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Centre of the University of Dhaka held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr Akhtaruzzaman on Sunday to discuss promoting youth entrepreneurship under a project.

Country Director of KOICA Bangladesh Office Ms. Doh Young-Ah and ICE Centre Executive Director Md Rashedur Rahman were present at the meeting at the VC's office.

According to a press release issued by ICE, the project titled "Capacity Building of Universities in Bangladesh to Promote Youth Entrepreneurship", will be implemented by the DU in collaboration with the KOICA Bangladesh and a consortium comprising Korea Productivity Center (KPC) and Korea Polytechnic University.

The VC, who is also the Chairman of ICE Centre, mentioned that DU with its accumulated resources and experiences will play an active role to promote entrepreneurship in the country.

Highlighting the significance of the project, Dr Akhtaruzzaman hoped that it will add value to the university's vision to provide quality education and research in the year celebrating Bangabandhu's birth centenary along with the "Mujib Borsho" and Golden Jubilee of the Independence of Bangladesh.

KOICA Country Director Ms. Doh appreciated the role of Dhaka University since 1921, and hoped that the outcomes of the project will play a significant role in improving the capacities of the universities to promote entrepreneurship.

She also emphasised the importance of collaborative initiatives on Innovation and Entrepreneurship between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Bangladesh.

ICE Centre Executive Director Mr Rahman highlighted the importance and role of DU towards an innovation driven entrepreneurial Bangladesh.

He shared the project details of this unique US $7.5 million Government to Government (G2G) grant project between the Government of Bangladesh and the South Korean Government.

He said the project will have the following components: Development of a world class physical infrastructure at the CARASS building for interdisciplinary students, faculties and alumni; developing curriculum on Entrepreneurship; capacity building of stakeholders including faculty members, government officials and others on entrepreneurial education; advocacy and awareness building activities to strengthen entrepreneurship ecosystem; and research on contemporary issues related to innovation and entrepreneurship.
