Dhaka to be a modern city, Atiqul says

Newly-elected Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam has said he will take time-befitting programmes to turn Dhaka into a modern and beautiful city.

Seeking cooperation of all, he said,” I have short, medium and long-term programmes to make Dhaka city liveable for all.”

Atiqul Islam came up with the statement while addressing a pressing conference at his residence on Saturday, reports BSS.

He also thanked all voters for electing him as the mayor of DNCC.

“This victory is for all….we will work together to make Dhaka a healthy and liveable city,” he said.

He also called for introduction of technology-based services for modernisation of Dhaka city.

Awami League candidate Atiqul Islam was unofficially declared elected in the by-election to the mayoral post of DNCC on Thursday bagging 839,302 votes while his nearest rival Shafin Ahmed of Jatiya Party got 52,429 votes.
