Dhaka South mayor hopes to collect Tk 9.0b revenue

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh expressed the hope that the Corporation would be able to collect revenue worth over Tk9.0 billion during the current fiscal year 2021-22.

"We (corporation) are hopeful of realising over Tk 9.0 billion in revenue during the current fiscal year if the present trend in revenue collection continues," he said.

He said the Corporation had collected revenue without increasing rate of taxes.

Mentioning that he had taken office as the city father during the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr Taposh said even at the time of this catastrophe, DSCC's revenue collection in the last fiscal (2020-21) had risen to Tk7.03 billion from Tk5.12 billion in the previous fiscal (2019-20).

He hoped that if the present trend in revenue collection continued it would be possible for the Corporation to realise Tk1.5 (Tk 1,500 crore) in revenue in the upcoming fiscal (2022-23).

He said that due to increased collection of revenue and others development activities, the corporation had already started getting back to its dignified status.

Mr Taposh came up the with remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a function on National Funeral of Buddhist Sanganayak Suddhananda Mahathero and International Buddhists Conference at Buddhist Monastery at Sabujbagh, Bashabo in the capital on Wednesday.

The mayor said late Sanganayak Suddhananda Mahathero had rendered service for the cause of the people and the country.

He paid his profound respects to Sanganayak Suddhananda Mahathero.

Earlier the mayor had inaugurated the newly-built two-storey Buddhist Monks Training and Dormitory Building.

Responding to the Buddhist monks' request, the mayor assured them of making the building up to five-storey with the city corporation's own fund.

Member of Parliament of Dhaka -6 constituency Saber Hossain Chowdhury and special assistant to the Prime Minister Barrister Biplab Barua were present, among others.
