Dhaka records lowest temp so far on Friday

The capital Dhaka on Friday recorded the lowest minimum temperature so far this winter, according to met office officials.

Dhaka recorded the capital's lowest temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Meteorologists also warned that an existing cold wave may sweep over parts of Bangladesh until Sunday morning.

In 24 hours until 6:00am on Friday, the daily minimum temperature was reported in Dhaka at 12.00 degrees Celsius which is nearly three degrees above the country’s lowest temperature of 9.0 degrees Celsius recorded at Chuadanga, according to a met office regular bulletin.

According to Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the majority of people in the capital and elsewhere in the country are now experiencing bone-chilling cold because the temperature difference between night and day is so small.

Mallik said Dhaka recorded the lowest 12.00 degree Celsius temperature so far.

Dhaka recorded the highest temperature 20.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, the met office bulletin stated.

The country’s highest maximum daily temperature of 26.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Sitakunda, the bulletin said.

As the longer duration and higher density of fog still persisted, it continued to create disruption of road and river traffic across the country.

In its regular 24-hour bulletin starting from Friday morning, the met office said a mild cold wave is sweeping over the districts of Naogaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jashore & Chuadanga and it may continue.

It is predicted that moderate to severe cold conditions will prevail over the northern, northwest, and central parts of the country due to the reduced difference between day and night temperatures.

According to the BMD bulletin, moderate to thick fog may occur over the country from midnight to morning, and it may persist in some areas until noon.

Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged and day temperature may rise slightly over the country, it also said.

The Ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal & adjoining Western part of Bangladesh, it said, adding that seasonal low lies over South Bay.

Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, as per the bulletin.

In its outlook for the next 72 hours starting Thursday morning the BMD predicts little change.
